Modern Luxe: A Hillside Kitchen Designed for Entertaining, Connection, and Everyday Living

  • August 24, 2026
When homeowners begin a kitchen remodel, they're often searching for more than beautiful cabinetry or premium appliances. They're looking for a space that feels effortless, a kitchen that works just as well for a quiet Tuesday morning as it does for hosting friends and family on the weekend. That vision became the foundation of our Modern Luxe project.

Perched on a steep Twin Cities hillside, this remodel transformed a segmented, multi-level kitchen into a warm, sophisticated space designed around gathering. Every design decision was made with intention, balancing luxury with livability while overcoming significant architectural and logistical challenges. The result is a kitchen that feels timeless, intuitive, and beautifully connected to the way homeowners live.

A Kitchen Designed Around the Way People Gather

The homeowners had one clear goal: to create a kitchen that makes entertainment feel effortless.

Their existing kitchen was divided into separate zones that interrupted flow and made hosting more difficult. Storage was limited; workspaces competed with one another, and movement between the kitchen and adjoining laundry areas felt constrained.

Rather than simply updating finishes, our design team completely reimagined how the space functioned.

The new layout centers around multiple workstations, allowing several people to cook, prep, serve, and socialize at the same time without getting in each other's way. An expansive island anchors the room, creating a natural gathering place while maintaining generous circulation throughout the kitchen.

This project reminds us that a successful kitchen design isn't measured by square footage alone. It's measured by how comfortably the space supports everyday life and the people who share it.

Every Great Design Begins with Thoughtful Space Planning

Beautiful kitchens don't happen by accident. Long before cabinetry is selected or countertops are installed, successful remodeling begins with understanding how every inch of a room should function. The Modern Luxe kitchen presented unique design challenges from the very beginning.

The home featured:

  • Multiple ceiling heights
  • Unconventional wall angles
  • Several skylights
  • Inconsistent window placement
  • Multiple floor elevations

Without careful planning, these architectural elements could have made the kitchen feel visually disconnected. Instead, they became opportunities.

Through intentional space planning, layered materials, and carefully balanced proportions, every architectural feature was incorporated into a cohesive design that feels calm, refined, and welcoming rather than busy or fragmented.

Creating Luxury Through Custom Cabinetry

One of the defining features of this remodel is its custom cabinetry. Luxury isn’t always about adding more. Often, it’s about making everything feel seamless.

Throughout the kitchen, custom cabinetry was designed to unify transitions between functional spaces while maximizing storage.

Continuous cabinet runs visually connect the room, while wrapped millwork details soften corners and create uninterrupted sightlines.

Even the pantry and laundry room entries were intentionally scaled to align with surrounding refrigeration panels and cabinetry, allowing these functional spaces to blend quietly into the overall design instead of interrupting it.

These subtle details may go unnoticed at first glance, but together they create a sense of refinement that defines truly exceptional design.

Function Was Just as Important as Beauty

A kitchen should work as beautifully as it looks. That’s why every appliance was selected not only for its appearance but for how it supports the homeowner’s lifestyle.

Professional-grade appliances help create an efficient workflow while supporting frequent entertaining. Highlights include:

  • Expansive refrigerator and freezer storage
  • Statement range for preparing multiple dishes simultaneously
  • Dedicated wine and beverage storage
  • Premium dishwasher for efficient cleanup

Together, these elements establish an efficient work triangle between the refrigerator, range, and island, making meal preparation feel intuitive whether cooking for two or twenty.

Solving Complex Design Challenges with Creative Thinking

Every remodeling project presents unique obstacles. Some simply require a little more creativity. Because this home sits on a steep hillside, even getting materials and appliances into the home requires careful logistical planning.

Inside, narrow hallways, multiple levels, and tight corners created additional construction challenges that influenced nearly every design decision.

Rather than forcing standard solutions into an unconventional space, our team embraced the home's character.

Every transition, cabinet detail, and architectural break was thoughtfully considered to ensure the finished kitchen feels effortless, even though achieving that simplicity required significant behind-the-scenes planning.

Designing Around the Details

One of the lesser-known aspects of luxury kitchen design involves planning material limitations. Large countertop slabs, cabinetry components, and specialty materials often have manufacturing size constraints.

Instead of allowing seams to interrupt the visual flow of the kitchen, every transition was carefully planned around appliance locations and architectural breaks. The result?

Clean lines. Balanced proportions. A kitchen that appears uninterrupted despite the complexity behind its construction. These invisible details often distinguish exceptional design from ordinary remodeling.

Modern Luxe Means More Than Premium Finishes

The phrase "modern luxury" often brings to mind expensive materials or designer fixtures.

At Revival House, luxury means something different. Luxury is walking into your kitchen and immediately feeling at ease. It's knowing everything has its place. It's having enough storage to eliminate clutter. It's preparing dinner without feeling crowded. It's gathering around an island where conversations naturally happen. Modern Luxe isn't simply a design style.

It's a way of creating homes that feel elevated because they support the lives lived inside them.

Why Custom Design Creates Better Living

No two families live exactly alike. That's why every Revival House project begins with listening.

  • We learn how clients cook.
  • How they entertain.
  • Where kids drop backpacks.
  • How holidays are celebrated.
  • Which cabinets get opened every day.

Those conversations become the foundation for every design decision.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all layout, we create cabinetry, storage, and workflows tailored specifically to each homeowner.

That's exactly what made this hillside kitchen such a success.

Every feature reflects the way these homeowners actually live, not simply what looks good in a magazine.

Our design philosophy has always centered on creating homes that are both beautiful and deeply personal, making the remodeling process collaborative, enjoyable, and tailored to each client's vision.

The Revival House Difference

At Revival House, we believe remodeling should never be about chasing trends. It should be about creating spaces that continue to feel beautiful years from now.

Projects like Modern Luxe reflect our approach to design:

  • Thoughtful space planning
  • Custom cabinetry designed around everyday life
  • Beautiful materials selected with purpose
  • Functional layouts that simplify daily routines
  • Timeless aesthetics that outlast trends

Every detail works together to create a home that's as enjoyable to live in as it is to admire.

Bringing Your Vision to Life

Every home has its own story. Sometimes that story begins with a challenging floor plan. Sometimes it's a kitchen that no longer supports the way your family lives. And sometimes it's simply the desire to create a home that feels more connected, more functional, and more reflective of who you are.

The Modern Luxe project is proof that with thoughtful design, custom cabinetry, and careful planning, even the most complex spaces can become extraordinary.

At Revival House, we believe your home should work beautifully for everyday living while creating the perfect backdrop for life's biggest moments. Whether you're preparing family dinners, hosting holiday celebrations, or enjoying a quiet morning coffee, exceptional design makes every experience feel a little more effortless, and a lot more meaningful.

If you're ready to transform your kitchen into a space that's thoughtfully designed around the way you live, we're here to help bring that vision to life.
