They need a complete reimagining of how they live, feel, and function. The Soft Classic Kitchen Project began with a home full of potential but lacking the warmth, flow, and functionality this growing family needed for the season of life they were stepping into. What was once a small, awkward kitchen is now a light-filled gathering space layered with warmth, texture, and intentional details designed for hosting, connection, and everyday living. 

At Revival House, our approach to design always begins with how a space should feel. Beautiful materials matter, but creating a home that supports the rhythms of daily life in a meaningful way matters even more. 

For this project, the vision was clear from the beginning: create a home that felt calm, organic, elevated, and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. 

Designing for the Way They Wanted to Live 

The original kitchen no longer reflected the home's scale or the family's lifestyle. The layout felt tight and disconnected; the cabinetry was worn and insufficient for entertaining, and the overall space lacked the openness they were craving. 

More than anything, they wanted a home that could become the center of gathering. 

A place where holidays naturally unfolded around the island. Where children could grow up surrounded by warmth and connection. Where morning coffee, casual dinners, and slow weekends all felt equally intentional. 

The homeowners were especially drawn to the idea of creating a home that felt immersed in nature, almost “fishbowl-like” in the best way, with expansive windows capturing the greenery, pond views, and changing light throughout the day. 

That connection to the outdoors became one of the guiding principles behind the entire renovation. 

An Organic Modern Direction Rooted in Warmth 

 The overall design direction leaned into a layered organic modern aesthetic, clean and refined, yet warm enough to feel lived in and welcoming. 

Rather than relying on stark contrasts or trend-driven moments, the home was designed through texture, natural materials, soft tonal variation, and thoughtful architectural details. 

Warm woods, soft plaster finishes, layered lighting, engineered wood flooring, stone surfaces, and subtle contrast all work together to create a home that feels elevated without ever feeling overly formal. 

According to Architectural Digest, organic modern interiors continue to resonate because they prioritize natural materials, calming palettes, and spaces that feel connected to both people and place. 

That balance became essential throughout every room of this renovation. 

Custom Cabinetry Designed Around Everyday Rituals 

At the center of the kitchen is custom Wynnbrooke Cabinetry, thoughtfully designed around the way the family actually lives.

For us, cabinetry should never feel purely functional. It should quietly support daily living while contributing to the home's overall softness and cohesion. 

Every detail was intentionally considered, including: 

• Charging drawers to reduce visual clutter  

• Custom drawer dividers for organization  

• Integrated tray storage within the island  

• Functional trash pull-outs  

• A built-in coffee and dry bar  

• Hidden storage solutions that simplify everyday life  
  

The result is a kitchen that feels seamless and effortless, where beauty and functionality coexist naturally. 

The Hood Wall as a Sculptural Moment 

One of the defining features within the kitchen is the custom plaster hood and statement range wall. 

Rather than making the kitchen feel overly flat or minimal, the hood adds depth, texture, and softness while anchoring the entire room architecturally. 

The plaster finish adds an old-world quality that feels organic and timeless, especially when layered against the warmth of the cabinetry and surrounding natural materials. 

To further create dimension throughout the space, the design incorporated: 

• Wood ceiling beams  
• A tray ceiling detail  
• Layered lighting  
• Natural stone  
• Warm tonal variation  
• Textural finishes that shift beautifully throughout the day

Together, these elements create a home that feels collected, grounded, and intentionally layered rather than overly designed. 

Framing the Landscape Through Light 

Natural light has become one of the most important design features throughout the home. 

The surrounding greenery, pond views, and expansive backyard created an opportunity to design interiors that felt deeply connected to the landscape outside. Every finish and material was selected to complement that softness rather than compete with it. 

Throughout the day, light moves differently through the home, casting warmth across the flooring, softening the plaster textures, and bringing depth to the layered neutral palette. 

The home feels calm in the morning, bright and open during the day, and warm and intimate in the evenings. 

That balance was incredibly important to preserve. 

Sustainable Selections with Intention 

Another major priority throughout the project was incorporating cleaner, more sustainable material selections wherever possible. 

Balancing those goals within a strict budget required thoughtful planning and intentional editing throughout the process. Rather than focusing on excess, the design centered around selecting materials that would age beautifully, function well for family life, and contribute to a healthier living environment overall. 

According to the U.S. Green Building Council, homeowners continue to prioritize healthier, longer-lasting materials that support both sustainability and overall well-being in residential design. 

For this project, sustainability was approached quietly and intentionally through: 

• Material longevity  
• Thoughtful finish selections  
• Functional storage solutions  
• Timeless design choices  
• Quality craftsmanship  
• Pieces designed to last rather than feel temporary  
  

The result is a home that feels refined, grounded, and enduring. 

Designing Through Real-Life Constraints 

Like many renovations, this project also came with meaningful pressures behind the scenes. 

The homeowners had already sold their previous home and were living in a short-term rental during construction, which added significant timeline stress to the process. Balancing elevated finishes, sustainable goals, and budget considerations required careful communication and thoughtful decision-making throughout every phase. 

At Revival House, we believe that part of our role as designers is to help carry the emotional weight of a renovation alongside our clients. 

Creating clarity within the process, minimizing unnecessary changes, and helping clients stay connected to the larger vision became just as important as the design details themselves. 

Because ultimately, the experience of creating a home matters too.

Today, the Soft Classic Kitchen Project feels entirely transformed. What was once a small, dated kitchen is now the heart of the home; a warm, welcoming space designed for gathering, entertaining, and slowing down together. The surrounding living spaces feel cohesive and connected through layered textures, intentional materials, and soft architectural moments that bring warmth into every corner. 

From the custom coffee bar to the sculptural hood wall and integrated storage solutions, every detail was designed to support both beauty and everyday life. 

Most importantly, the home now reflects the feeling the family was searching for from the beginning: open, calm, connected, and deeply livable. 

Because the best homes are not simply designed to be seen. 

They are designed to be lived in beautifully.
