Welcome back to Revival House in the Kitchen! This month we are bringing you an Apple French Toast Bake recipe that is sure to become a family breakfast favorite. This Apple French Toast Bake would be the perfect addition to any Christmas morning breakfast, Easter or Mother’s Day breakfast or brunch. Don’t forget those wedding showers and baby showers. French Toast Ingredients:
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup butter or margarine
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 large *tart apples, peeled and sliced quarter-inch thick
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
9 slices day-old French bread, sliced three-quarter inch thick
Directions:
Cook brown sugar, butter and syrup until thick, about 5-7 minutes. Pour into an ungreased 9” x 13” pan. Arrange apples on top. Beat eggs, milk and vanilla. Dip bread in egg mixture for 1 minute. Place bread over apples. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake 35-40 minutes, uncovered, at 350 degrees.
Syrup:
1 cup applesauce
1 – 10-ounce jar apple jelly
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
¼ tablespoon ground cloves
Directions:
Combine syrup ingredients. Cook and stir until hot. Serve over French toast.
*Tart Apple Varieties:
Granny Smith apples
Braeburn apples (a sweet-tart varriety)
Jonathan apples
Pacific Rose apples
Cortland apples(slightly tart)
Optional syrup: Can also substitute maple syrup.
